Don't panic! Here are some steps to writing a great Position Paper.
Step 1: DO YOUR RESEARCH. -Find good, reliable sources online, like we've talked about in class (URLs that end in .edu, .gov, or .org), find books at the library, newspaper articles, encyclopedias, etc. -Look at the "Research Website Links" category on this site --> -Find facts, statistics, and data that support your country's position. -Remember to research YOUR COUNTRY and THE TOPIC! Step 2: MAKE AN OUTLINE. -Decide which information is going where in the paper. Should it be in the Introduction? Should it be in the Body paragraphs (the meat of the paper)? -Follow the structure we've discussed. -Make a plan of how you will finish writing and doing your citations and how much time you think you need with your partner. Step 3: START WRITING. 1st paragraph - Introduction: background information on your country, introduction to the topic 2nd paragraph - Domestic Action (Small Scale/ National): past policies and actions related to the issue in your country 3rd paragraph - International Action (Big Scale/ International): past resolutions and agreements that your country took part in, collaboration with other countries 4th/ 5th paragraphs - Resolutions/ Conclusion: you can be creative here (tell us some ideas you have for the future, solutions to the problem) Separate final page - Works Cited: you must include in-text citations within the body of your paper and the corresponding citations on the Works Cited page The paper should be in MLA format, 12-point Times New Roman font, single-spaced. It will be between 1 and 1.5 pages in length. Step 4: RECEIVE FEEDBACK. -The teachers and I will be editing your work and writing comments. After we make edits, you need to go back and revise your paper with those new suggestions and comments in mind. If you are struggling with writing the paper, please let me know ([email protected]). We are happy to work with you and provide help and clarity, but you also must put in the effort and do the work first. Don't wait until the last minute to do this. *Reminder: do NOT copy information from any source without giving credit and correctly citing. The first draft is due Monday, December 11, 2017. Vamos chicos!
